Frank Haith to Missouri…umm what?

After failing to entice Purdue coach Matt Painter, the University of  Missouri has offered Miami coach Frank Haith its head coaching position and reports are he has accepted it.

This move makes no sense. Haith has been to one NCAA tournament in seven seasons at Miami. He has a 43-69 record in the ACC in what has been considered a “down” era for the conference. He has recruited some pretty good athletes to the U, but his teams have generally all played pretty sporadically and been disappointing. Did Missouri offer him the job just because they knew he would say yes? They know he is part of the Rick Barnes coaching tree, right?

I’m completely shocked that Missouri’s AD didn’t at least reach out to hot names like Brad Stevens or Shaka Smart. Missouri fan reaction can be found at Rock M Nation.

As far as the Miami job, Frank Martin’s strong connection to the South Florida and Jacob Pullen’s departure could mean he might be in play. I think the Hurricane faithful would gladly accept that swap (cue every other ACC coach cursing and slamming his fist).
