I guess this Turgeon guy can recruit. Shaquille Cleare (class of 2012), a 6’10 285 lb center out of Texas, has committed to the University of Maryland. Cleare, a four-star recruit ranked as the 12th best center in the country by Scout.com, is a coup for the Terps. Turgeon began to recruit Cleare when he was still coaching at Texas A&M and it was assumed Cleare would stay in-state. Lucky for the Terps, he didn’t. This kid could be a game-changer for a program with only eight kids currently under scholarship. With a 2012 lineup (possibly) of Nick Faust, Terrel Stoglin, P’Shon Howard, and Shaquille Cleare, the Terps could again be a force in the ACC sooner rather than later.

University of Maryland head basketball coach Gary Williams is retiring after coaching the Terps for the past 22 years and leading them to the 2002 NCAA Championship.
A sad day for Terrapins fans. A 1 P.M. press conference is scheduled for tomorrow. More thoughts to come.
Today’s Daily Dagger took place in the 2003 NCAA Tournament First Round match up between 6-seed and defending National Champions Maryland Terrapins and 11-seed UNC Willmington. Coming out very flat, the Terrapins were in a battle for most of the game and it looked as if Wilmington would pull off the upset. After a timeout with Maryland down 1, Drew Nicholas ran the length of the court and knocked down one of the most famous shots in tournament and Maryland history. Defeating UNC-Willmington 75-73, the Terps stormed into the locker room following the crazed senior Nicholas. To me this is what March is all about! I love this play and always will. Thanks again Drew.
Note- The clip is over 4 minutes, but he makes the shot within the 1st minute.
